What we do in Accra
Under the Ghana Gold Board Act 2025 (Act 1140), GoldBod licenses aggregators and buyers, and foreigners were directed to leave local gold trading from 30 April 2025; they may instead apply to buy gold from GoldBod. A foreign buyer offered gold in Ghana by anyone else should therefore start by asking what licence the seller holds and how the gold will be exported lawfully.
- [Licence checks](/locations/supplier-due-diligence-ghana) — GoldBod licence category and standing, Minerals Commission licences, ORC company record
- [Gold testing](/services/gold-testing) of lots held by licensed parties, where the law permits
- [Document authentication](/services/document-authentication) of offtake, export and assay documents
- [Mine inspection](/services/mine-warehouse-inspection) of large-scale and licensed small-scale operations
Licences that matter in Ghana
- GoldBod licences for aggregators, self-financing aggregators and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers, open to Ghanaians and wholly Ghanaian-owned companies
- Further GoldBod licences for refining, smelting, storage, transport and related services
- Minerals Commission licences for mining, from large-scale leases to small-scale licences
- Company registration with the Office of the Registrar of Companies
How a testing engagement runs
- Brief — send the form of the gold, where it is held in Accra or the mining regions, the approximate quantity and the date you need, by the request form or email.
- Scope — we confirm the tests, the tester, the date, the laboratory if fire assay is required, and what the report will contain.
- Attendance — our tester attends, numbers and photographs each piece and weighs it on a calibrated scale.
- Testing — XRF, acid and density readings are taken on each piece and recorded in front of the parties.
- Sealing and sampling — the lot is sealed with numbered seals; where fire assay is in scope, a sample is drawn and sealed for the laboratory.
- Report — the field report follows within one working day; the laboratory certificate, addressed to you, when it is issued.
What you receive
- A field report with XRF, acid and density readings for every piece
- Calibrated weights, piece numbers and seal numbers
- Photographs of the pieces, the readings and the sealing, taken by our tester
- Where in scope, a fire assay certificate from an accredited laboratory, addressed to you
- Where requested, a valuation on the LBMA Gold Price
