What we check in Uganda
| Check | Where the record is held |
|---|---|

| Mining, dealer’s or refinery licence | Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines |
| Origin and import documents | Their issuing authorities |
| Grade and quantity | Our own testing and inspection |
Local points that change the answer
- The Mining and Minerals Act 2022 replaced the earlier regime; licences issued before it should be checked for conversion and validity.
- Gold from neighbouring countries is common in the trade; buyers subject to responsible-sourcing rules need origin evidence that meets the OECD guidance.
- The Bank of Uganda buys domestically produced gold through a refinery under contract.
How the engagement runs
- Brief — the supplier’s name and the documents it has given you, through the Due Diligence form.
- Scope — we confirm the scope under the Nairank Global Standard, the timetable and the fee for work in Uganda.
- Records — company and licence records obtained from the registry and the licensing authority; documents confirmed with their issuers.
- Field work — where in scope, inspection of the site or warehouse and testing of the material by our own personnel.
- Screening — company, directors and owners screened against sanctions, PEP and adverse-media sources.
- Report — each finding with its evidence and a recommendation.
